This evening (Tuesday), Tadhg O’Donnell of the Four Kings Boxing Club of Wicklow won the European Junior Boxing Championship by defeating Pawel Fabian Urbanksk of Poland 5-0 in the final, capping an undefeated competition in Italy.

Amazingly, the 66-kg boxer from Greystones didn’t lose a round in any of the five matches, lasting 15 rounds without giving up a single point.

Ste Coughlan’s rising star beat strong competition from Cyprus, England, Armenia, and Italy to go to the final, and he will return home with the Irish squad tomorrow (Wednesday) along with two gold, four silver, and four bronze medals.

There were other Wicklow boxers fighting for Ireland besides Tadhg. Siofra Lawless of the Liberty Boxing Club advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating a German fighter 5-0 before losing to the current European champion from the Czech Republic.

Jodie Byrne from St. Teresa’s made it to the tournament’s round of 16, however she was unable to advance to the medal round.

Paul O’Toole of the Enniskerry Boxing Club and Linda Morgan of the Arklow Boxing Club traveled with the three Garden County fighters.
